Greatwood
A greatwood is a tall, magical tree with dark wood and a thick trunk. Some greatwoods may also be infested greatwoods, which host cave spiders and a small chest of loot. The wood of this tree used to craft several arcane artifacts and devices, the most notable being the greatwood wand core, a necessary component to crafting the first upgraded tier of wand.

Structure [ ]
Greatwoods consist of a thick 2×2 trunk growing vertically or nearly vertically with long, straight branches protruding out in all directions tipped with thick clusters of leaves.
Greatwood trunks are generated as two separate vertical segments of equal height stacked on top of one another to create a single trunk. These segments may be perfectly aligned to create a single 2×2 column, or they may be slightly offset by a single block in one or both of the X-coordinate and Z-coordinate directions. When growing unobstructed, these segments grow between 6 and 12 blocks tall. The two segments share a block layer at the point where they meet, making the total height of a greatwood trunk between 11 and 23 blocks. Random branches and leaves extending beyond the main trunk may make the greatwood’s total height even taller.
Infested greatwoods are identical to normal greatwoods, with the additions of a cave spider spawner and a loot chest buried directly under the tree and a few bits of cobweb scattered amongst its leaves.
Generation [ ]
Greatwoods generate naturally in temperate forests and plains across the Overworld.
During terrain generation, any given chunk has an initial 1/25 (4%) chance to generate a greatwood. If that chance succeeds, it is further narrowed down by a secondary chance determined by the chunk’s biome—more specifically, by that biome’s Minecraft Forge BiomeDictionary.Type. Each biome in the game will belong to one or more of these types. If a biome belongs to more than one type, the type with the highest priority dictates.
Below is a table of all biome types in which greatwoods can generate, along with their relative priorities (where 1 is highest), generation chances per chunk, overall generation chances with the initial 4% chance factored in, and a list of which biomes are dictated by each biome type:
Priority | Biome type | Chance per chunk | Overall chance | Biomes |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Savanna | 20% | 0.8% | Savanna, savanna plateau |
2 | Coniferous | 20% | 0.8% | Taiga, taiga hills, cold taiga, cold taiga hills, mega taiga, mega taiga hills |
3 | Lush | 50% | 2% | — |
4 | Magical | 100% | 4% | eerie , outer lands, magical forest |
5 | Forest | 100% | 4% | Forest, forest hills, jungle edge, birch forest, birch forest hills, roofed forest, extreme hills plus |
6 | Plains | 20% | 0.8% | Plains |
7 | Swamp | 20% | 0.8% | Swampland |
Every greatwood that successfully generates has a 1/8 (12.5%) chance to generate as an infested greatwood.
Greatwoods will not generate if the generate_trees config option is set to false (default true) or if the world type is set to Superflat.
Blocks and Items [ ]
The following items can be obtained from greatwood trees:
- Chest (under infested trees, harvested with any tool)
- Cobweb (near infested trees, harvested with shears or Silk Touch tools)
- Greatwood sapling (chance of dropping when leaves are broken)
- Spawner (under infested greatwoods, spawns cave spiders)
- Spider eye (near infested trees, dropped from killing cave spiders)
- String (near infested trees, dropped from cobwebs when harvested without tools or killing cave spiders)
Loot [ ]
The loot found within the chest under infested greatwoods pulls from the same loot table as vanilla dungeon chests.
Growth [ ]
Greatwoods can be grown from greatwood saplings planted on any block that can normally grow an oak sapling. They require a minimum unobstructed area of 2×2 blocks and an open height of 6 blocks to grow; however, there are some complications as described below.
Vanilla trees that can grow 2×2 trunks (such as dark oaks) require 4 saplings planted together to grow. Greatwoods do not follow this trend; a greatwood is always grown as a 2×2 tree from a single sapling. Thus, a flat 2×2 open area of ground must exist for a greatwood sapling to grow. All four blocks within this region must be soil blocks that can have a sapling planted on them, even though only one sapling is actually used. The open 2×2 plot can be in any of the four diagonal directions from the sapling. If unobstructed, greatwoods prefer growing their trunks towards the northwest.
The two segments of the trunk grow in different positions relative to the sapling. The trunk segment closer to the ground will grow wherever it can find a valid place to generate, preferring to grow such that the sapling is in the southeast corner if it can. The upper segment of the trunk will always grow such that the sapling below it is in its northwest corner. Thus, greatwoods grown unobstructed will always grow with a diagonal kink in the center, while saplings that are blocked off to force the trunk to grow towards the southeast will always grow perfectly straight.
It is notable that all growth restrictions on the greatwood apply to only the first trunk segment and not the second. When the tree attempts to grow, the first segment will decide how tall it wants to be as a random number between 11 and 21, inclusive. It then checks to see what the maximum free height is that it can grow to before it collides with an obstruction. If that free height is less than the height it had previously selected, the selected height will be capped to the free height. If the resultant height is less than six blocks tall, the tree will fail to generate and the sapling will not grow. The segment will then take that resultant height and modify it using the following formula:
where h is the height of the trunk segment in blocks. This height value will be the final height value for both segments.
Due to this relationship, if a greatwood were obstructed above by a block but still able to grow, there is a high chance that the second trunk segment will overshoot the obstruction and punch straight through it. This is doubly true for greatwoods that have trunks where the two segments are offset; the second segment will punch through any obstacles directly adjacent to the lower segment in the direction of the offset.
Leaves are generated in random clusters all around the trunk. These clusters tend to be roughly spherical or mushroom shaped blobs 4-5 blocks in diameter. The clusters may overlap to create more complex shapes. Each cluster generates a roughly straight line of logs leading between its lower center and the trunk to create the branches.
Unlike vanilla saplings, greatwood saplings do not respond to the growth boosting effects of bone meal. They do, however, respond to the growth boosting effects of both the Hoe of Growth and Lamp of Growth.
Trivia [ ]
- When harvested for wood, a single average greatwood can supply over one full stack of logs.
- Most greatwoods that generate naturally will be crooked.
- It is common for several of the leaves on a newly generated or newly grown greatwoods to immediately begin to decay. This can cause occasional saplings to drop nearby.
- It is possible in very specific circumstances for a greatwood to generate crooked to the north and west instead of only the south and east. If such a greatwood happens to be an infested greatwood, the spawner and loot chest will spawn exposed next to the trunk instead of under it, as the chest and spawner generate under the northwest corner of the upper trunk segment and not the lower one.
- The oversight of the upper segment of a crooked greatwood grown from a sapling punching through obstacles can be abused by players to remove unbreakable blocks such as end portal frames or even blocks that have been warded by other players.

Не растет великое дерево
В общем 2е реальных суток посажен саженец великого дерева который нужен для продвижения по ветке квестов, доступные для новичка методы, такие как лейка или костная мука не помогают
