Wood
Wood is the main source of obtaining Money when sold at the Wood Dropoff, and is also used to fill in Blueprints. There are currently twenty-one wood types in the game, two are unobtainable, two are only available seasonally, and one doesn’t have its own tree or log form.
There are two main stages of wood: Log (unprocessed) and Plank (processed with the use of a sawmill). Both logs and planks can be processed in sawmills, however, planks will sell for much more. Logs will lose their ownership if not interacted with, eventually causing them to despawn. Additionally, Logs will not not save to a player’s base and are uncapable of filling in Blueprints. Planks will despawn upon the owner’s unload if not on the owner’s land.
Characteristics
Trees have five main traits:
- Value (M/u): The amount for which the plank and log will sell, represented in M/u (Money/Unit)
- Plank Appearance: The color and material of the wood type’s plank.
- Average Trunk Thickness: The average width of the wood type’s at its trunk.
- Average Growth Time: The average time it takes for a wood type’s tree to grow to maturity.
- Hardness: The hardness decimal assigned to each wood type based on how hard it is to cut.
Here is a table of all of the aforementioned characteristics. For more information about a type of tree, go to its respective page.

Lava Wood, also referred to as Volcano Wood or Red Wood, is the only tree that grows at the peak of the Volcano. It is mainly used as a means of making money, although it is debated that Gold Wood or Frost Wood gives more money in the long run. However, it is the most lethal type of wood to get to.
An axe specialized for this type of wood is the Fire Axe, from the Fiery Gift of Lumber, which is now not obtainable and can only be acquired with trading alongside other players. The Bird Axe is also specialised somewhat. Both of these axes do a large amount of damage to Lava Wood, but only the Bird Axe is efficient to any other types of wood.
Characteristics
Lava Wood commonly grows thick and large, with branching angles similar to Spook Wood, Sinister Wood, and Cavecrawler Wood. It can have a few brown Concrete material leaves, along with a Bright Red exterior with a Really Red interior. Occasionally, the trunk will not fit into the Sawmax 02 or Sawmax 02L. It is recommended to use Hardened Axe or better, due to the thickness of the lower logs especially.
Harvesting
Lava Wood can only be reached by successfully passing through the volcano obstacle. After clearing, the tree must be cut down and either dropped from the top of the volcano, towards the area with the Birch Wood, or stored in a vehicle and driven down the Volcano or down the side of the Volcano. The first option is preferred as that has a smaller risk of dying inside the volcano. It is recommended to use a Sawmax 02 or sawmills more efficient when processing, as fully grown trees can be very large, especially the trunk.
